Mackenzie Phillips is probably best known for her role as Julie Horvath on the soap opera One Day at A Time.  As a teenage star, Phillips experienced a spiral of drug and alcohol abuse that eventually led her to attempt rehabilitation after two near-fatal overdoses.  She was fired twice from the show because of her alcohol and drug abuse habits.  In 1992, Phillips entered a nine-month long rehabilitation program where she was finally able to overcome her addictions.

Now, almost 20 years after cleaning up her act, Mackenzie Phillips is spilling the beans.  In her new book, High on Arrival, Phillips discusses her families deepest, darkest secret.  She claims that her father, John Phillips of The Mamas and the Papas, raped her while she was unconscious on the night of her first wedding and that the incestuous affair continued for some time afterwards.  In addition, she tells about her father introducing her to drugs and being the first person to “shoot her up” for the first time.

Mackenzie Phillips has given an interview to Oprah where she breaks the silence once and for all.  The episode is scheduled to air today, September 23, 2009.  I’ll admit, I don’t normally watch Oprah, but this is one episode you won’t want to miss.  Here’s the preview trailer…
