As most of you who read this blog know, I adore the campy musical Glee. I just can’t write enough about the Gleeks (Glee Club geeks) and their rollicking, yet treacherous, romp through their high school days. I now have even more reason to smile, as Glee announced on Facebook that the series was picked up for a full season by FOX Network. The official words from Kevin Reilly, president of FOX entertainment, are as follows: “The response we’ve received to Glee has been remarkable,” said Reilly. “It’s already got the makings of a cultural phenomenon. I’ve seen all 13 episodes, and Ryan Murphy, his team and the talented Glee cast have knocked our socks off with their incredible work. We’re happy to pick up this gem of a show, and can’t wait to see what they’ll do with the rest of the season.”
More laughs, more songs, more dancing, and more drama, for the more than 25 million people who tuned in for the Glee premiere, from its airing in May, and again in September. FOX’s gamble produced a three-year-high rating in the scripted new show category. Social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook and MySpace have racked up more than 300,000 fans for the series and many of the songs which have aired are leading in iTunes downloads.
If you haven’t yet tuned in, give this edgy treat a glance. I can assure you that the not-so-stereotypical cartoon characters will grow on you, as you find yourself reliving the high school cast system of your past.
