Eureka, a Syfy Channel original series, aired the season finale on Friday, September 18, 2009. It was likely one of the best Eureka episodes of all times. Jack Carter, the sheriff of this bombastic town of geniuses, had his hands full both coming and going in this episode. Distinctly missing from the finale was Allison, the head of Global Dynamics.
This episode had more twists and turns than usual, for a season finale I guess we shouldn’t expect anything less, with Eureka delivering in genius fashion. The storyline centered around a lot of changes in Sheriff Carter’s world. First, his daughter Zoe is accepted into Harvard and will have to leave immediately to get ready for college.
Tess, his new lady friend who had temporarily taken over the reigns of Global Dynamics while Allison was on maternity leave, gets the job opportunity of a lifetime – only it’s in Australia.
Then to top it all off, Zoe’s boyfriend, in his attempts to impress his mentor and get a recommendation so he could join Zoe at school, constructs a machine that creates a third magnetic pole right in the center of Eureka. This was a machine he hoped would be the answer to a neutron star labeled as “Nemesis”.
This star has a binary orbit with our Sun and crosses Earth’s orbit every 65 million years and theoretically tears the planet apart by instantly reversing the gravitational pull of the Earth’s magnetic poles. But, instead of fixing the problem, the machine causes the same effects as Nemesis which threatens to destroy the entire planet.
Once again, in a town overrun with geniuses, they must turn to the average Joe, or average Jack in this case, to save the day. This was a very fun and interesting episode that you just have to watch to fully appreciate.
