The Vampire Diaries second episode opens with another pair of teens making out. A familiar fog rolls through the trees around them, Damon’s attacking again!

The Morning After

Elena and Stefan are doing voice over diary entries, when Elena says a chipper good morning to her Aunt Jenna. Elena feels good today, Her brother Jeremy has gone to visit Vicki, in hospital. Elena checks in with Matt about Vickie’s state. Stefan uses his “Vampire Hearing” on their conversation. He tells Elena that she told Matt she’d been attacked by a vampire.

Mr. Tanner lectures about a comet due to pass over the town that hasn’t come for 145 years.

The comet will be visible right around dusk during some town celebration. Aunt Jenna’s having a parent-teacher conference with Mr. Tanner about Jeremy. He’s been skipping class and taking drugs.

At the Hospital

Matt enters his sister’s room and she appears at his side and freaks out. Matt runs for help, letting Stefan to slip in and work some vampire hypnosis on her. Hypnotized Vicki forgets what happened and now thinks she was attacked by an animal. By the time Matt returns with a nurse, Vicki’s back to normal. Vicki can’t remember a thing about freaking out and recites Stefan’s line. Jeremy comes by and Vicki still wants him to keep their summer love a secret.  Jeremy reminds her that he found her in the woods.

After School

Elena is out with Bonnie and Caroline talking about the comet and the evil it brought on Mystic Falls a hundred years ago. Elena goes to see Stefan, the door’s open, and it seems like nobody’s home. A door creaks open and Damon is right in front of her. Damon tells Elena how much Stefan likes her, then mentions Catherine. Stefan arrives, upset to see his brother with his girl.

That Night

Vicki’s out of the hospital and back at the Mystic Grill, where she’s trying to get some prescription meds from Jeremy. Damon runs into Vicki at the restaurant.  She can’t quite place him, but she’s plenty upset. She heads for the ladies’ room to go get high. There’s one problem, vampire Damon is right behind her. Everyone starts looking for Vicki. Stefan finds her with Damon. Up on a roof, Damon holds a terrified Vicki over the edge. Damon’s trying to get Stefan to feast on humans again. He tells Damon he’d rather be staked in the heart then be like his brother. Damon whispers something to Vicki and she thinks she blacked out.

Outside, the town has gathered for the comet celebration.  Stefan points out the comet to Elena and tells her that it is  just a lonely little space ball trapped on its course, who gets to come home once every 145 years, not evil. Meanwhile, Caroline is being stalked by Damon. She drops her keys, and he appears. Elena  ends up at Stefan’s mansion, where they have their first kiss.  I wonder what next week will hold in store?
