The_Office_0601The opening scene of The Office’s sixth season premiere reminded me why I love this show so much:  watching stupid people do stupid things on a TV show is much more entertaining and amusing than watching the stupid people around me do stupid things.  Oh, poor Michael Scott (Steve Carell).  He sums himself up so accurately:  “It is wonderful to be the center of attention.”  His awkward quirks and attempts to be in the limelight are classic.  How I have missed his antics over the past few months.

The season’s opener is hilarious.  Michael struggles to be the first to know about a piece of gossip, and when he does, it’s not a laughing matter:  Stanley (Leslie David Baker) is having an affair?!  And Michael goes overboard telling the whole office about it.

It’s hard to imagine the stoic, monotone Stanley making out with anyone, especially someone other than his wife.  But it seems that’s exactly what’s going on.  And now everyone knows about it, and Michael can’t take it back…or can he?

By spreading a barrage of false gossip, Michael hopes to erase Stanley’s affair from everyone’s mind.  Chaos ensues, and the hilarity is not disappointing, especially when Andy (Ed Helms) starts to doubt his sexuality after hearing a rumor that he’s gay.

As a Pam (Jenna Fischer) and Jim (John Krasinski) lover, I felt all warm and fuzzy inside at the sight of Baby Halpert’s sonogram.  What a perfect way to round out the season premiere.  I felt as I always do when the credits start to roll after an episode of The Office.  I just don’t want it to end!  And I certainly can’t wait until next week.
