The Ultimate Fighter is as real as it gets. This reality television series is centered around mixed martial arts, better known as (MMA). The fighting competition originated on January 18,2005 in the United States where the Light Heavyweights and Middleweights divisions were first introduced.
The show is produced by Spike TV along with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). On the show we get to see up and coming MMA professional fighters who are looking to make a name for themselves. All the fighters are brought to a house just outside of Las Vegas Nevada. They are to compete against each other for the title of The Ultimate Fighter.
The winner of the competition is rewarded with three year, six-figure, multi-fight contract with the UFC . After winning the title of Ultimate Fighter, and on top of the guaranteed 6 figure contract, they have 3 fights over the next year where they are guaranteed 5 figure purses. Of course, the winner gets double the purse money of the loser.
An interesting concept, the show takes viewers through the daily lives of the fighters as they prepare for each fight. We witness how they train for competition and the interactions they have with each other living under the same roof – which can get confrontational to say the least. Dan White, the president of the UFC, who oversee the day-to-day events of the show attribute the success of UFC to the high popularity of The Ultimate Fighter.
This new 10th season of The Ultimate Fighter premiers on September 16, 2009 and it promises to bring some big hits as only The Ultimate Fighter can. Check out the trailer for season ten below.
