Am I the only one that gets pumped up at the opening theme song of True Blood, “Bad Things” by Jace Everett? It just gets me excited for the show to come and I know the show is going to leave me excited for more. That is why this particular night, I am saddened by hearing the song, knowing that it is the season finale of one of the best shows on television.
Maryann, the Maenad, is planning her wedding to her God by sacrificing Sam. First, she forces Sookie to get dressed up as her Maid of Honor. She knows that by forcing Sookie into this position, Sam will be forced to come and try to protect Sookie from Maryann.
Our suspicions are confirmed that Sookie is definitely not entirely human since Maryann cannot place any control over her.
Perhaps her powers extend beyond the simple reading of minds.
In the previous episode, it was revealed that the maenad could only be killed when she believed she was with her God, Dionysis. Bill brought Sam to the sacrifice location at Sookie’s house to act as the vessel and Maryann stabbed Sam in the heart. Meanwhile, Sookie started to tear down everything the maenad had built in order to get the maenad to chase after her. While she was running, Bill let Sam feed from him so he could heal. Sam turned himself into a bull and convinced Maryann that he was Dionysis incarnate. He used his horns to rip through Maryann and made her believe that she was the vessel herself. Sam returned to his normal self and ripped out Maryann’s black heart and crushed it.
The people of Bon Temps seem to be awakening from their dream. Nobody knows where they are or how they got there. This is probably lucky for them to be able to forget all the evil deeds they had done. People start questioning exactly what happened to them whether it was aliens or a gas leak.
The season ends with Jessica feasting on a trucker, Eggs trying to turn himself into Andy Balfour before Jason puts a bullet in his head, and Bill proposing to Sookie in a romantic French restaurant. Yet she can’t say yes. This is good news for all of the people out there rooting for Eric rather than Bill.
While Sookie is in the ladies room, someone sneaks up behind Bill with a silver necklace, chokes him, and drags him away just before Sookie comes running out to say, “Yes” to his proposal.
Personally, this was a let down of an episode. It lacked in the action and emotion departments. Hopefully next season will delve more into the Eric vs. Bill scenario and put Sookie into a real difficult position. And of course it will be nice to know who took Bill and where! In the meantime I guess we can watch The Vampire Diaries on the CW network. It appears that it will be a good addition to the vampire genre.
