Everyone is in an uproar this morning over the stage antics of Kanye West at the MTV Video Music Awards last night.  It came during Taylor Swift’s acceptance of a VMA for Best Female Video. She appeared to be totally surprised when Kanye West came up on the stage, took away her mic, and then said made his statement supporting Beyonce’s nomination in the category (West was nominated for Video of The Year, among other nominations).

“Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you.  I’ll let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time. One of the best videos of all time!”

Kanye then hands the mic back to Taylor Swift, who is speechless.  The crowd erupts in a mix of fanfare and boos as West leaves the stage.

Obviously this is just another ploy for Kanye to get his name into the headlines.  You know the old saying, all publicity is good publicity.  Following the incident West was escorted from the building.  Later he apologized to Swift on his blog, if you can call it an apology.  Since the site appears to be down this morning, here’s the full quote from his site, via MTV, followed by video of the actual event:

“I’m sooooo sorry to Taylor Swift and her fans and her mom.  I spoke to her mother right after and she said the same thing my mother would’ve said. She is very talented! I like the lyrics about being a cheerleader and she’s in the bleachers! I’m in the wrong for going on stage and taking away from her moment!
