The CW network has chosen a winner with Vampire Diaries. Drawing on the increasing success of vampire movies and books like Twilight, The CW took on this theme with the new show, The Vampire Diaries.
The Vampire Diaries premiered last night with rave reviews. Created by the team from Dawson’s Creek, The Vampire Diaries is pleasant mix of high school drama and vampires.
The show set in Mystic Falls and follows the lives of Stefan, a kind Vampire that wants to create a new life, along with, Elena, a high girl who conveniently looks just like Stefan’s ex- love.
The Vampire Diaries started with an intense scene of two teens becoming victims of a vampire attack. Then we see Elena, whose parents where killed in a car crash.
Elena and her brother Jeremy now live with their aunt. Jeremy is selling drugs at the school. Elena heads to school with here best friend Bonnie, who thinks she may be psychic. A crow flies in front of her car and the stop suddenly. At School, She’s also the first person to notice Stefan Salvatore, the new guy.
After school, we see Elena writing in her journal at the cemetery, when all of a sudden out of nowhere a crow lands on the gravestone of her parents she is sitting beside. Elena freaks out, runs away, falls down a hill, gets up and then sees Stefan. He keeps asking her if she is OK, when Elena rolls up her pants to reveal a bloody cut, Stefan turns white and runs.
At a hang out which appears to be a coffee house/pool hall, Jeremy tries to talk to Vicki, the girl he sold drugs to earlier in the day, but she’s with a guy named Tyler. Once Jeremy finally gets her alone, and we find out that the two slept together all summer, but now she’s done with him.
As Elena leaves home to meet her friends at the hang out and she runs smack into Stefan at her front door He’s supposedly shown up to give her back her journal. We find out he has one too.
At the Coffee house, Caroline and Bonnie talk about Stefan as he comes in with Elena, everyone stares. They sit down with friends and talk. It is revealed that Stefan’s parents are dead and he is living in the old family home with his “uncle.” He’s not really his uncle, but more like his great-great-great nephew. Bonnie invites Stefan to a party the next night.
When Stefan gets home, his “uncle” accuses him of the first attack and yells at him for coming back to Mystic Falls. He goes to his room and opens a cabinet full of journals, he finds the one from 1864 and opens up the book to the photo of a woman named Katherine and she looks exactly like Elena.
The party begins with the entire student body gathering in the woods for a party. People will never learn in a situation with vampires, never party in the woods. Elena is talking to Bonnie, when Elena hands her a drink Bonnie stares for a minute. she says she saw Elena and a crow and fog. Elena tells Stefan about her parents. she even tells him about her parents’ accident, he begins to turn in a vampire and excuses himself. Vicki and Tyler are now in the woods making out. He tries to go too far, she say no and Jeremy comes in and saves the day. Vicki is by herself in the woods when a fog comes up and something is following her. She is attacked and we see Stefan leaving the woods. Elena chases after Jeremy only to find Vicki in woods. The party disperses.
In the hospital later in the episode, Vicki wakes up and can only get one word out to her brother, sitting bedside: vampire…
Meanwhile, Stefan arrives home, goes upstairs and a crow flies into his room.Then Damon his brother appears The two have an intense conversation that end in a fight.
From this conversation we learn:
- Damon knows that Katherine and Elena look alike.
- Damon killed the couple at the beginning and attacked Vicki. Vicki is still alive.
- They wear a rings that let them walk in the sunlight.
- Stefan does not attack humans.
We end the episode with Stefan stopping back at Elena’s house. It’s been quite the night for both of them. Elena invites Stefan inside, he accepts and the door closes. Over all, this episode was very intriguing and the casting choice where excellent. I can’t wait for the next episode.

Next week Damon talks to Elena and they have to deal with the Vicki situation. Damon apparently has a huge plan for the city.
