The hit reality show Cops first aired in March of 1989 and has been a fan favorite ever since. This gritty program follow real life police officers as they work some of the toughest crimes scenes. Every step of the way we are given a front row view as a camera team films every heart-racing real action sequence as it goes down. As of March 2009, the show has aired 750 episodes. It won the American Television Award in 1993, and has earned four Emmy nominations.
The original series began shooting footage only in Broward County, Florida. As it grew in popularity the program has shown officers in the act of running down and capturing criminals in 140 different cities across the United States. Not just localized to the US, Cops has also filmed officers in Hong Kong, London as well as the Soviet Union.
Each episode usually has three segments with each segment being one or two self-contained police incidents.
Cops has become one of FOX Broadcasting Network’s biggest hit series and also one of its longest running reality programs. The new season of Cops airs September 12th so check your local TV Guide for the Fox schedule in your local time zone.
