Robin (Jonas Armstrong) isn’t doing so well, when the third season of Robin Hood airs on Saturday, September 12, 2009, on BBCA. In fact, he is downright losing it, in a revengeful rage to avenge Maid Marian’s (Lucy Griffiths) death. The Sheriff of Nottingham (Keith Allen) and Sir Guy of Gisborne (Richard Armitage) are hot on his tail, as they seek to take Robin down.
It’s such a shame for loyal fans that Armstrong refused to sign for a fourth season, and the hit series was declared over, after this season, by the BBC. Rumors surfaced that Archer (Clive Standen) was to be the replacement character for Robin, when he makes his climactic exit, instead of the demise of the series. But never mind the theories for now, this season is full of new characters and action, and most notably, the hefty Friar Tuck (David Harewood) will appear. Will he become an ally of Robin and the Merry Men, in the BBC version of the tale?
Also along for this rousing season are a number of new-to-the-show characters. Archer, as mentioned above, is the half-brother of both Robin and Gisborne, and is set to be hanged. The evil power-hungry Prince John (Toby Stephens) also joins the fray, along with Kate (Joanne Froggatt), a inadvertent do-gooder in Robin Hood fashion, and Isabella (Lara Pulver), the sister who Gisborne sold into a disastrous marriage.
If you missed the first two seasons of the Sherwood Forest drama, catch up on iTunes before the premiere this weekend, or TiVo the series and save the third season until you have caught up. I think viewers are in for an intriguing tension-filled adventure.
