It started out with a little blurb from a source I watch on Twitter. Then it was confirmed by the Associated Press. Next thing I know the whole Internet is buzzing about Ellen DeGeneres taking a position on American Idol as a judge to replace Paula Abdul. Say what?!? Well, not only was it confirmed in several news outlets, but Ellen herself put out a press release saying what she thought she could bring to the show:
Hopefully I’m the people’s point of view because I’m just like you. I sit at home and I watch it and I don’t have that technical…I’m not looking at it in a critical way from the producer’s mind. I’m looking at it as a person who is going to buy the music and is going to relate to that person.

So, with Ellen coming on the show in January 2010, where does that leave her talk show? Apparently right where it is. She’s multi-talented and ready to do both, according to NJ.com. It will certainly be interesting to see the reaction of Paula Abdul to this turn of events. I would imagine she will be less than thrilled with the selection of her replacement.
On another note, can you see Kara Dio Guardi and Ellen working together on the judges’ panel? Hmmm … wait a minute, that sounds familiar. Oh yeah, check out the dialog between the two on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. Yes, this could make for an interesting season, that’s for sure!
