Ella, David, Lauren, Augie, Violet, Jonah and Riley

The original Melrose Place was an award-winning hit for the Fox Network. CW now hopes that the new version of Melrose Place will bring in the fans of the old show and create new fans. This TV drama is about a group of people living in “Melrose Place,” an apartment building in L.A. and how their lives intertwine.

The new Melrose premiere is packed with drama, intrigue and mystery, with loads of sex and deceit. Here is an in-depth review of the premiere.

***SPOILER ALERT***

The series premiere for Melrose Place starts out with a wild and crazy bar scene with two unknown individuals making out, who you later find out is David, the son of Michael a old tenant of Melrose Place and a random girl.

David seems to be a rich pretty boy with a possible drug problem. He is interrupted by an urgent text for Sidney. He rushes to her apartment where she is fine and visibly trying to seduce him. He tells her it is over.

Jonah, an aspiring filmmaker, and Riley, a teacher, wake up in bed together. Jonah surprises her with a 5th year anniversary present of a beautiful video of their life and a proposal of marriage. Riley is about to answer when a blood curdling scream is heard outside. Everyone rush to the scene to find new tenant Violet  by the pool with a dead body in it.  The dead body is discovered to be landlord Sid, the same woman David went to see the night before. The whole group, especially Augie, is shaken, with the exception of Ella. Riley tells Jonah she needs time to decide about marriage.

The police take David into custody, however, Ella lies to get him out.  Upon leaving the police station Ella flashes back to a meeting with Sid where we find out that Sid had an affair with David’s father and Ella told David. Sid proceeds to kick Ella out of the apartment building and tells her she will ruin her.

Lauren a nurse at a hospital who is attending med school, is treating a patient and talking to the patients son when she receives a phone call from her father telling her he can not pay for college anymore. She has to come up with the money. Then the patient’s son (Tody) she was speaking to asks her out. She refuses then goes out any way.

Jonah is filming the 18th birthday party of some famous director and trying to get him to look at his movie.  The director is visibly disgusted as he tells Jonah no. Later at the party Jonah accidentally films the director making out with is daughter’s best friend. The director then offers Jonah $100,000 to write a screen play based on his short film. Obviously he wants to shut Jonah up and get the video destroyed.

When Jonah gets home he tells Riley he didn’t what to get famous that way and she says yes to his proposal. Lauren goes out with the hospital guy (Toby) who asks her back to his hotel room. When she kindly refuses he offers to “donate” $5,000 to pay her college.  Disgusted, she leaves.

The tenants have a memorial for Sid and go their separate ways. After a talk with Violet, Lauren goes to Toby’s hotel room. David goes to his father’s house and Augie is seen burning bloody clothes in the alley.

All in all, I would say that the remake of Melrose Place is on track to be as good or better than the original. The cast is the typical 20 something TV drama with interesting back stories and mysterious behavior. We will probably have to wait until the end of the season to find out the real murder and motive of Sid. However, the journey is looking like an entertaining and intriguing one.
