Glee_TweetsFOX livened up the Glee repeat from May, with live Twitter streams, in an effort to keep the viewer’s attention. A first of its kind, and may become more than a one time happening, as viewers and Tweeters gave it a big thumbs up. In case you missed it on September 4, 2009, follow along for a few highlights.

The official Twitter page for Glee is @GLEEonFOX, so don’t be fooled by the page that states it is the official one. Actors Mark Salling (@Mark_Salling), Lea Michele (@MsLeaMichele) and Kevin McHale (@DruidDUDE) were on hand to tweet during the East coast time frame, with the cast comments showing on the television screen.

Just in case you forgot, Mark plays Puck, the Mohawk-wearing jock, and Lea plays Rachel Berry, the daughter of two gay dads and lead vocalist, while Kevin, as Artie, is paralyzed from the waist down and confined to a wheelchair.

West-coast-time Tweeters were Chris Colfer (@chriscolfer), as the soprano Kurt Hummel, Cory Monteith (@frankenteen), the jock lead-singer, Finn Hudson, and Amber Riley (@MsAmberRiley) as the sassy and soulful singer.

Some tidbits of information gleamed from the cast tweets:

  • Lea began singing at the age of eight, and loves to sing songs by Paramore.
  • Artie loves Paramore’s lead singer, Hayley Williams, and admitted to quitting 7th grade choir.
  • Kevin was a Twitter newbie, and couldn’t quite keep up with the others.
  • Kevin and Lea take naps in the Schuester bedroom and Lea likes to hang out in the craftroom.
  • Mark was a music school guitar instructor for five years, and his favorite movie is “Amadeus”.
  • Chris’ favorite Broadway musical is “Wicked” and calls himself a sarcastic class clown.”
  • Cory lists his Glee favorites as singing, dancing, writing, direction, Jane Lynch and performing in “Somebody to Love.” He is learning to surf.
  • Kurt gives Rachel a makeover in an upcoming episode.
  • Production used the same house for all three of the scenes in the homes of Finn, Quinn and Rachel.
  • Viewers can expect to hear music from a number of decades.

There you have it, the use of Twitter as an innovative way to promote Glee, and connect viewers with the personalities behind the characters.  As a bonus, here’s a clip of the cast getting ready to go live for the Tweet-peat broadcast:
