Televisions

There are several types of new trendy Plasma, LCD or other types of High Definition TV’s available for your viewing needs, while you take a short nap or simply watch your favorite shows, the news or soap opera re-runs everyday. So choosing the right TV that also has the perfect picture, is probably what you want the most.

If you or your children enjoy gaming consoles, your TV’s display monitor will make a great difference depending on what you choose, especially if you are looking for true high resolution imagery or high definition animation and graphics.

TV’s also have been very popular now, as part of the movie theater and home entertainment center world and almost everyone has one in their home.

Larger screen TV’s, such as LCD and Plasma, and even TV’s up to 80 inches, have become very popular and now come with dynamic displays, the portrayal of fabulous color and perfect details.

The two types of TV’s are: analog and digital. An analog TV uses CRT technology or “Cathode Ray Tubes” to display the image that can be moving, while the newer LCD and Plasma TV’s use rear projection and micro-displays. The final image and sound system is different depending on the technology used.

Many of the new TV’s are also compatible with PC’s, since they are used as a PC monitor, due to the high resolution they offer, especially for video games. A faster screen will create a sharper image and less haze, also when using the screen from a high definition TV such as a LCD or Plasma TV instead of a PC monitor, the graphics from a video game will show up faster, larger and with enhanced image resolution.

Below are some television comparisons:

CRT – Cathode Ray Tube:
This type of TV, which is the first analog TV, was developed in 1930. Today it is the simplest and least expensive form of TV, and also still provides one of the best pictures.

LCD – Liquid Crystal Display:
These TV’s are very thin and weight very little, many people who want to save space purchase these LCD televisions also due their excellence in color, lighting and screen image. LCD TV’s have also become very popular, because they consume about a third of the power consumed by a CRT TV. The display is made up of millions of small crystal pixels or picture elements, and so the actual image quality is outstanding. Moreover, computer graphics are fed by a digital connection verses an analog connection, and that is why the image quality is superior to CRT TV’s.

TFT-LCD – Thin Film Transistor:
This TV is even clearer than the regular LCD TV even though it uses the same type of technology. The color, contrast and details of the images on the screen of a TFT-LCD TV are also brought onto the screen faster than a Cathode Ray Tube. With the CRT TV, due to a slower display of the images, a lot of details are dropped, resulting in what is called “ghosting,” and so the screen images look a lot hazier when compared to the LCD TV’s. The TFT-LCD is just as thin as an LCD TV and has better sharpness, resolution, and because the pixels are even finer than a regular LCD, the pictures are enhanced.

Rear Projection TV or Micro-Display:
This type of TV uses a mix of the CRT and LCD technology to display the TV images, and has a larger screen. The micro display has dense pixels that offer better resolution since the light bounces off onto a glass lens, magnifying and improving the image on the monitor. Rear Projection TV is a digital TV that is a bit heavier than an LCD TV, but lighter in weight and thinner in comparison to a CRT television.

Plasma TV’s:
Similar in function and performance as to the technology used by the TFT-LCD TV’s, the color on a Plasma TV is deeper and the images are richer. With Plasma technology, the pixels are trapped in between glass sheets; the result is better illumination of the image and a clearer picture. Altogether there is a contrast ratio of 1000 to 1.

When deciding on what type of TV to purchase, all the above mentioned points should be taken into consideration, as the price of most of these TV’s are very similar, other than the CRT type TV, which is the cheapest.

Also make sure prior to purchasing your TV, you look around for special prices, bargains and sales. Furthermore, internet pricing may be lower for some TV’s, but you may want to visit your retail store to first check out the actual TV you are planning to order online.
